1. Training Outline
There are 3 Modules to this training, and 5 specific lessons within each module.
For each lesson you will be given information to introduce the topic, and materials to read, view and discuss that explain the topic. Then, the key focus of each lesson is the Application Assignment. That is where you are asked to apply the material covered to a case study situation. These applications will keep you focused on the real-life use of the material, building your skill set for being a Carbon Professional. Finally, you will have a short “quick quiz” to take. You will get immediate feedback on the quiz so you’ll know just where you are. That is the general pattern for each lesson.
At any time throughout the program, you can contact us at the School directly through email. In fact, we will be in email touch with you a number of times as you progress through the program. You are not working alone! In fact, we hope that you will consider yourself to be part of our virtual CPS learning community. 2. Book to Buy
You need to buy a copy of the paperback:
The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to Your Carbon Footprint.
The author is: Nancy S Grant
You can usually by this book at any Borders or Barnes & Nobles bookstore. Or, of course, you can go to Amazon (www.amazon.com) and search for it there. The full retail price is $9.95.
Important Note: Please don’t be put off by the title of the book. There are a lot of books about various aspects of what we cover in this class and I’ll be giving you references to many of them throughout the course. However, we wanted to give you an overall picture of this material – in a way that is genuinely readable. (Meaning, a book that was not political, not too detailed, and not too dry.) You will be reading a number of articles throughout the training that will give you more specific information on topics, so we will, of course, get into more depth. But I think that you’ll find that there is a lot of information in an easily digestible format in the Pocket Idiot’s Guide.
3. Computer Configuration Needed
Remember, this is an online program, so you will be working from your computer. All you need is MS Word and a standard browser (we recommend Firefox but other standard browsers will work too, such as Internet Explorer).
Can you see and hear You-Tube video clips? If so, then you have all of the software you need. If not, you will need to download a flash viewer, such as Adobe. Those can usually be downloaded for free.
4. Using Your Password
When you registered for this training program, you received a confidential password to the training site.
Please be careful to keep your password in a safe but accessible location. You will need to use it each time you enter the program.
5. EcoAid: Who are We?
The Carbon Professional School (CPS) is the educational product of EcoAid LLC. EcoAid is an environmental company that sells carbon offsets, provides sustainability planning and consulting to client organizations, and supports renewable energy projects. EcoAid is a member and broker with the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCE), Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), & Climate Action Reserve (CAR).
EcoAid has a significant focus in education. The development and support of this school is, of course, a major project. In addition, EcoAid supports and helps build student environmental clubs. EcoAid on Campus, started at Arizona State University, is a student club with branches at university campuses throughout the country. 6. Meet The Director of the School -
Dr. Skip Pollock
Hello! I am delighted to have this virtual meeting and I look forward to working with you in this training program.
What do I do?
My role is to oversee the academic and student affairs within the Carbon Professional School. Throughout the program you will be working with a variety of instructors, including me, but I want you to have a name, face, and direct link to the school administration. As you go through the program, if you have concerns, questions, suggestions, or problems (I hope not), please contact me directly. I promise that I will be back in touch with you within 48-hours. (My goal is 24 hrs but I don’t want to make a promise that I can’t deliver.)
How did I get here?
Like many people in this environmental-sustainability world today, I started my career in a different direction. I was always interested in understanding people and got my PhD in Clinical Psychology.
I’m originally from Miami, FL, and I taught at Miami-Dade College and had a private clinical practice. Then I lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where I worked for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory. Then I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where I was in a practice doing both clinical work and organizational consulting. My husband and I moved to Dayton Ohio where he was a university vice-president and I taught at the School of Professional Psychology, Wright State University. I headed the Consultation Division of the school and my biggest client was the US Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB. Then we returned to Phoenix, which is home. Along with serving as the Education Director of the Carbon Professional School (CPS) for EcoAid, I am a professor at Mesa College, where I teach psychology.
It has been an interesting journey and I am very lucky to have met some wonderful people along the way! On the personal side, I have 2 stepsons, 8 grandkids, and 2 spoiled cats. My very wonderful and accomplished husband, Ken, serves as the CEO of EcoAid LLC. I am one very lucky person!

I look forward to meeting you – virtually through the school and hopefully in person one day. I hope that you enjoy this training, learn a lot more than you ever expected, and find that you can directly apply this training to your upcoming new, green Carbon Professional career. GOOD LUCK!
Please get in touch with me anytime throughout your work with the school. My email address is: cps@ecoaidnow.com
Again, welcome to our school.
We look forward to a positive partnership with you!
